Just before giving up and going home hungry we spotted the small sign that led us to Perrotti’s NY Deli. Located in the back of a Winter Garden strip mall, they’re hard to find but well worth the hunt.
From the list of signature sandwiches, the New Yorker with corned beef, pastrami and swiss on rye was a winner. Perrotti’s uses quality Thumann’s meats; thinly-sliced and thickly applied.
The Grosvenor Square of hot roast beef, melted cheddar, A-1, and french fried onions on ciabatta was also a first-rate combination. You can of course build your own sandwich from a long list of exceptional deli meats and cheeses but we prefer leaving it to the experts.
As for sides, the salads (potato, coleslaw and macaroni) were heavier on the mayo than we enjoy but the gourmet chips and sodas were accompaniments enough.
Before leaving we grabbed a couple of bagels for the road. Perrotti’s sells “Just Bagels” (frozen) that are shipped from the Bronx and take just a few minutes in the oven. They’re warm and chewy and beyond terrific. We were sorry we only bought two, next time we’re stocking up.
The New Yorker $5.99
The Grosvenor Square $6.99
